The idea began roughly two and a half years ago when Rick Oellers confronted an issue at the Concord Hospital Childrens Hospital; the issue being children who were too ill to get out of their hospital beds to view a centralized aquarium. Why couldn’t we design a system that could literally roll from room to room and visit the children so they wouldn’t have to get out of bed? With the fine design and craftsmanship from our friends and allies, Marine Ecological Habitats, the ART system was born!
Since its inception two and a half years ago, we have been busy with research and development and have had many hospitals in the Northeast try the systems on a temporary revolving basis; we are happy to report that it has been a huge success with many systems utilized in many hospitals in Maine, New Hampshire, and as far at Chicago on a permanent basis!!! All of us at New England Aquarium Services, have experienced powerful firsthand results with the ART system. Many patients who are in pain and are afraid become relaxed and focused on the system and its inhabitants seemingly instantly as soon as ART is announced and rolled up next to their bed.
We have had excellent results and reviews from patients, relatives of patients, hospital staff, and even some news outlets! This is a project that has become an incredible experience for everyone involved, and we wish its continued success.
